Or is the rain getting anyone else down?
Things to do when it doesn't stop raining for eight days:
Watch a good movie
Bake
Drink wine
Play board games
Read
Exercise
Have friends over
Play records
Pretend it's not raining

and tomorrow makes five....
Five years ago today, it was all the same. I had my life, my job, my friends. I lived in a city where I thought all the good men had moved away. It was winter. I worked in a basement. I couldn't afford to heat my uninsulated house. I spent hours writing my thesis with gloves on. The passenger side door to my car froze shut. I had to drive alone. After work, I went upstairs to the bar. I ran into a friend who I had seen with a cute guy earlier. I said "Is that your boyfriend? He's cute." She said no and asked if I wanted to go out with him. I said no. I drank some more and then went home with allergies to all the cigarette smoke.
Five years ago tomorrow, I woke up and it was the same. I went to work. I got off early. I met my friend's friend. We drank a pitcher or two. We listened to Hank Williams and Johnny Cash on the jukebox. I sat on his lap. He climbed in through my driver's side door. I didn't have to drive alone. Or sleep alone. Or worry about the heat any longer.
Five years ago day after tomorrow, I woke up and it was all different. And it still is. And wonderful. Happy anniversary (tomorrow), C.
